What Causes Glaucoma?

Researchers have recently discovered what may be one of the root causes of Glaucoma.  An investigation done at Northwestern University has revealed that people with glaucoma have "stiffer" cells in Schlemm's canal (part of the drainage system in the eye that removes fluid from within the eye) http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/09/140912215119.htm.  These stiffer cells have more trouble allowing fluid to pass between them and out of the eye.  This may be part of the problem when the eye has elevated pressure in it, one of the most important risk factors for glaucoma.  Hopefully this new information leads to improved Glaucoma therapy in the future.
